 EHS Manager

Bemis Company, Inc., an innovative leader in the flexible packaging industry, is currently seeking a EHS Manager for the Vancouver, WA facility. 

This position will drive the Bemis Vancouver's safety program in accordance to policies and procedures, and applicable regulations and guidelines covered under OSHA, NIOSH, NFPA, ANSI, and other government regulations.  Job duties include:  conducting periodic safety compliance and management audits; assisting in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures; reviewing accident information to determine root cause and corrective actions; and developing, presenting, and assisting in safety training programs as required. 

Education & Experience Required

Qualifications include: a Bachelor's Degree in Safety and Health or equivalent work experience; a minimum of 3 years of Occupational Safety experience in a manufacturing environment; knowledge of Workers Compensation Law, OSHA laws and guidelines, and Safety Regulatory Standards.

Skills & Abilities Needed

Excellent written and verbal communication skills is needed.  The ability to conduct training sessions ability to work with confidential and sensitive information are also necessary

Education & Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have a four year Accounting degree, with CPA/CMA certification preferred.  Additionally, two to five years of cost accounting experience is desired.

Skills & Abilities Needed

Successful candidates will have a background in maintaining and improving the integrity of standards and current cost systems with experience in analyzing variances to provide management feedback.  Experience working with integrated ERP solutions, SAP experience preferred. Job Responsibilities

1. Coaches, mentors, trains and directs Technical Department resources in, but not limited to the following areas:

A. Project Management skills, in particular the process used to implement projects within Bemis/Perfecseal

B. Effective team skills

C. Accurate scope definition, project cost estimates and schedule generation and management

2. Performs and/or participates in all elements of supervision over direct reports - performance reviews, hiring, salary administration, training, recognition, discipline, etc...

3. Establishes Margin Improvement Teams, facilitates and documents team meetings.

4. Coordinates or estimates cost necessary to accomplish scope of Technical projects with limited guidance from others.

5. Develops and communicates project schedule with limited guidance from others.

6. Supervises the timely completion and appropriate documentation for each assign project/protocol/validation. This includes designs, calculations, layouts, schematics, manuals, bid specs, etc.

7. Identifies, develops and implements plans for cost reduction, waste reduction, increased throughput and general operational improvement through the use of Lean Six Sigma Statistical Methods. Implementation requires approval from Plant Manager.

8. Supervises trouble shooting of daily production and process problems, communicates with Plant Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Supervisors and Operators regarding run problems, investigates root causes and recommends and implements corrective actions.

9. Supervises studies for manufacturing processes for pouching, breather bags and lay flat extrusions, and communicates to the Plant Manager the areas needing improvements.

10. Supervises internal validations and Design of Experiments to determine key process variables for the manufacturing processes.

11. Communicates all appropriate information such as operating and condition changes, validation results, and/or specification changes in a timely manner and fashion to the necessary people within and outside the organization.

12. Writes, conducts, analyzes, determines and reports on new or modified equipment capabilities, qualifications and validations. Interfaces with people, departments, and/or companies to insure that equipment is safe, made on schedule and to specification. This includes research into new technology as well as rebuilt equipment.

13. Coordinates or assists with installation, checkout, start-up and training of new or modified equipment as necessary.

14. Supervises material combination Developmental Runs and Commercialization qualification trial runs.

15. Manages the development of new package design and testing, and communicates to the Plant Manager the progress of these projects.

16. Approves manufacturing standard operating conditions as recommended by his/her staff.

17. Performs root cause analysis and corrective actions for customer complaints as assigned.

18. Supervises application review form approval.

19. Serves as ISO Key Area Leader for Design Control.  Acquires knowledge of procedures, work instructions and associated forms as required by Key Area Leaders.

Education & Experience Required

• A four year degree in Engineering or a minimum of 7 years Process Engineering experience.
• 5 years of experience with technical/engineering projects. 

Skills & Abilities Needed

• Understanding of Management & Personnel development skills.
• Strong communication and team skills necessary in working with team members, equipment suppliers and contractors and in sharing project information with internal departments.
• Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft software, including Word, Excel and Project. PC knowledge of statistical methods.
• Strong organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills to effectively contribute to executing projects.
• Strong knowledge of engineering concepts and practices as they relate to Perfecseal manufacturing processes.
• Ability to work independently or as a member of a cross-functional team on detailed projects with tight deadlines.
• Strong mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Project Management experience.

Job Responsibilities

As a Tax Analyst, the successful candidate will be involved in day-to-day federal, state and international income tax matters, including income tax compliance, related tax accounting, planning, research, and assistance with tax audits.

Job Duties include:

Tax Compliance

• Preparation of federal and state corporate income tax returns and related schedules
• Calculation of federal and state estimated income tax payments
• Calculation and analysis of income tax return book/tax differences including preparation of depreciation reports
• Preparation of earnings and profits calculations for foreign subsidiaries and completion of related Forms 5471
• Preparation of foreign tax credit calculations and related Form 1118
• Preparation of state sales and use tax returns
• Preparation of form 5500 for pension and welfare benefit plans
• Calculation and analysis of taxable income inclusions from employee benefits
• Preparation of Canadian income tax returns for two Canadian subsidiaries

Tax Provision

• Assistance with preparation of quarterly and annual US income tax provisions
• Preparation of annual Canadian tax provisions  

Federal and State Audits

• Preparation of responses to requests for information from federal and state income and sales and use tax authorities during the course of examinations

Special Projects and Tax Planning and Research

• Assistance with information gathering and research in connection with ongoing tax planning
• Assistance with special projects as needed

Education & Experience Required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting plus one to three years of experience in corporate income tax related work, preferably in public accounting.

Skills & Abilities Needed

Knowledge of income tax compliance and tax technology proficiency. Strong competence in Microsoft Office products and excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
